Day 2 Friday Sept 5 Giants!

Today's adventure was one of giants! We followed Route 66 through S.W. Illinois from Springfield to St Louis. The 2 lane "Mother Road" tunneled through giant corn fields until we got to Livingston, Il and we came across a giant pink elephant, the giant Harley muffler man, a giant tricycle, and a spaceship house! We got an ice cream cone from the giant cone there too! At St. Louis we crossed the giant Mississippi. We opted to bypass the city since we had been there several times already. Route 66 continued through lovely wooded hills of Missouri. Had to laugh when we went through the town of Bourban and saw the water tower with Bourban in giant letters! We passed on the Meramec Cave but we opted to pass it by. I made a note to myself to read up on the Jesse James hideout story. The town of Cuba was very cool... Lots of giant murals and a wonderfully restored Wagon Wheel Motel. Outpost 66 in Fanning boasts a giant, world's largest rocking chair. All along the way we have met some nice people and at the rocking chair we met a couple from Wales. We helped each other with pictures and had some laughs. Surprisingly, all of the people we've met have been foreign tourists! Couples from Germany, Belgium and England! The weather up until about Rolla has been great...though a bit warm. As we approached  Ft Leonardwood, we ran into a giant downpour! Fortunately it only lasted less than 5 minutes and thankfully I had my fabulous rain suit .... Retirement gift from my friends at EMS! We pulled into the Munger Moss motel in Lebanon, Mo around 6 pm. What a surprise to find that the couple from Wales that we met at the giant rocking chair was in the motel room next to us! They invited us to join them for dinner at a steak place a few blocks from the Munger Moss which we were very happy to do. It was a fun day!
